Participants shot a total of aproximately140 targets on both evenings. As in earlier events, 10-Bird Races attracted the greatest number of shooters. League and practice shooters combined for about 40 birds.

Monster storm barely misses St Croix Helice

Thursday June 19, evening shooters narrowly avoided a major weather event, as indicated by the cumulonimbus cloud just to the east of Game Unlimited. According to National Weather Service reports, Osceola, New Richmond, Hammond, WI were treated to nearly 2 inches of rain and 1 3/4-inch hailstones from this monster. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for WI counties just to the east of Game Unlimited.

The event attracted upwards of 160 shooters from the upper Midwest. From Friday, June 13 thru Sunday, June 15, St Croix Helice was open all three days, offering over 400 targets to the shooters. Helice shooting was available from mid-morning to dusk each day, with 10-Bird Races being the most popular event. League targets, and practice targets were also available.

10-Bird Races were offered for both morning and afternoon shoots on Saturday and Sunday. To win each race, a perfect score of 10 was required. Shooters also enjoyed St Croix Helice league targets and practice targets.

Improvements added to the St Croix Ring in May 2025. More are planned prior to the July 19 & 20 30-Bird Race.

St Croix Helice hosts 30-bird Race at Leines 200

The 2015 Leines 200 was hosted at Game Unlimited on Saturday May 17 and Sunday May 18. The Helice Ring was open during the tournament offering practice targets, daily 10-bird races, and a 2-day 30-bird race. Many new shooters took advantage of practice targets to get a tryout Helice targets. The comment was Helice shooting could become addictive. The winner of the two-day 30-bird shot 26 out of the 30 birds and was awarded a Game Unlimited engraved Canoe Paddle.

St Croix Helice Facility Upgrades for 2025

During the offseason, a new storage building and a pavilion were added. The building will house the launcher’s control panel and serve as a scoring facility. It is also adorned with flower boxes. The pavilion will be used for 30-bird races as a place to enjoy lunch and beverages which are included in the registration. Burgers and Broasted Chicken from the Willow River Saloon from nearby Burkhardt, WI caters the event. It is also a place to find shade during the hot summer months and provides a view of the ring.

April 19. First 30-Bird Race of 2025. Had a nice shooter turnout considering the cold, windy weather. Despite the conditions, at the end of the day everyone had a great time.

The fire pit was a great way to help stay comfortable. Burned scrap construction wood and branches from fallen trees.

First 30-Bird Race is complete. Shooters enjoyed burgers and fries delivered from the local restaurant. Beverages were also available. Now … anyone interested in an impromptu 10-bird race?

St Croix Helice opens the 2025 season on Saturday, April 12.

The spring weather cooperated with two magnificent weekend days. Mostly clear skies and temperatures in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. About a dozen + shooters stopped by on Saturday, before and after, their sporting clays round at the two-day Northern 200 NSCA event at Game Unlimited. Most shooters were new to Helice shooting and opted to shoot 5 birds. Several others competed in an impromptu 10-bird race. The 10-bird race is a winner-takes-all event.

Check out the new Helice Flag Sign. It is positioned along the main sporting clays course access road at Game Unlimited. It is impossible to miss.

The ring is ready and waiting for the shooter to say “Pull”. The voice command releases a random target from one of the five throwers. The trajectory of each target in totally unpredictable.
